50% of men are infected with HPV, and are therefore the major "spreaders" of HPV infection in women and resulting in cervical and other cancers. Infected men are also at higher risk of developing anal, penile, and heck and neck cancers. This raises the need to start vaccinating adolescent boys, in addition to girls, with the HPV vaccine. Unfortunately, the US government and insurance companies still do not see the need to vaccinate boys (but would rather pay the costs of cancer care!)
